Picking Up Event Tickets in Japan: The Right Store, Code and Deadline

Check your ticket seller, collection method and deadlines before visiting a store. A payment barcode, terminal slip and admission ticket serve different purposes.

By Coverstories Editorial

Before walking into a convenience store for a ticket, identify the job you still need to do: pay for a reservation, collect a paper ticket you have already paid for, or display an electronic ticket for admission. Those are different steps. A reservation confirmation, payment barcode and event ticket should not be treated as interchangeable.

Read the delivery method in your own confirmation first. The seller, sales route and event determine the process; the nearest convenience store is not automatically the right one. This guide uses named official examples to explain the differences, rather than promising that every ticket can be printed at every chain.

Write down three dates before visiting the store

  • Payment deadline: when must an unpaid reservation be paid?
  • Collection window: when does paper-ticket pickup start, and when does it end?
  • Event date and admission time: when must you actually be at the venue?

A successful payment does not necessarily mean collection is available immediately. Likewise, having an event date next month does not tell you how long you have to pay this week. Use the times in the booking confirmation and the selected seller’s instructions, including any maintenance notices.

If you are still choosing a sales route, first distinguish lottery applications from first-come ticket sales. Winning, paying and collecting can be separate stages; do not skip to the collection instructions before checking your booking status.

PIA international sales: some Seven-Eleven pickups use the counter

The PIA international-sale information describes a Seven-Eleven collection route in Japan. For that route, it says pickup is available after 24 hours from purchase and instructs customers to show the purchase-confirmation email to store staff, who check the ticket number and print the tickets.

That is a counter process, not an instruction to find a copier and print your email as the admission ticket. Check the collection window for your actual event before going. Do not extend this international-sale example to every PIA product or every payment method.

The same PIA page also lists other delivery formats, including will call and MOALA electronic tickets. Therefore, a PIA purchase alone does not establish that you should visit Seven-Eleven. Match the instructions to the delivery option in your purchase.

Lawson Ticket: the Loppi slip still needs the cashier

The Lawson Ticket English guide describes a store-collection flow using a QR code reached from the confirmation email or My Page. At Lawson, the customer uses Loppi, checks the reservation details and receives a printed slip. The guide explicitly says that this slip is not the admission ticket.

Two staged scenes show a paper slip taken from a terminal, then a cashier handing over a separate ticket while the slip rests on the counter.
Actual document layouts vary. Follow your booking instructions.

Take that slip to the cashier within 30 minutes to complete the store process and receive the ticket. In the guide’s over-the-counter payment route, payment is made there; in its credit-card route, the customer collects the already-paid ticket. The short slip deadline is separate from the booking’s payment or collection deadline.

Follow the instructions supplied with your own booking. Do not substitute a generic event code for a reservation-specific code, assume every screen is in English, or assume an electronic-ticket booking can be converted into paper. If a phone number is required, use the booking’s legitimate details; our reservation phone-number guide explains why a contact field and a ticket-verification requirement are different.

FamilyMart: a payment barcode can have a very short life

A third example comes from the Japanese eplus FAQ for FamilyMart barcode payment. It describes a smartphone barcode option that avoids using the multicopy machine for that payment procedure. The displayed barcode is valid for 10 minutes, so the instructions say to display it immediately before paying at the register.

The FAQ also warns that using the machine, closing the screen or navigating back after displaying the barcode can temporarily prevent the procedure; its instructions describe waiting approximately 15 minutes from the original display time before displaying it again. Follow that guidance if this is the route your booking supplies. This Japanese eplus example does not establish identical options for an overseas sales site or a different seller.

Before leaving the store

Check that you received what the booking required. If you expected an admission ticket, a payment receipt or machine slip alone may not complete the job. Compare the event, date and quantity with your confirmation while you are still able to ask staff about a mismatch.

Keep the confirmation and any receipt, but avoid posting reservation numbers, ticket URLs or barcodes publicly. If the process fails, stop and check the seller’s instructions rather than creating another purchase or entering invented details. A shop assistant can help with the store step; the seller’s support is the appropriate place to resolve a booking or delivery-method problem.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Lawson terminal slip my admission ticket?

No. In the Lawson collection flow described here, take the slip to the cashier within 30 minutes to complete the process and receive the ticket.

Do I always pay again at the convenience-store counter?

Follow the payment and collection method on your booking. Lawson’s instructions distinguish payment at the store from collection after payment; collecting a ticket does not by itself establish another amount due.

Can I collect a PIA international-site Seven-Eleven ticket immediately?

The international PIA FAQ described here says collection is available after 24 hours from purchase. Keep that condition tied to the stated sales and collection route, rather than applying it to every PIA product.
