Tokyo Airport Luggage Delivery: Arrival Cutoffs, Hotel Acceptance and When Not to Use It
Before sending a suitcase from the airport, check the counter cutoff, hotel reception and delivery date. Keep essentials with you until the bag arrives.

Compare the cutoff with counter arrival, not landing time
Airport luggage delivery works best when you reach the counter before its cutoff, your hotel can receive the bag, and you can manage until it arrives. Decide those three things before handing over your suitcase. An early flight arrival alone does not establish same-day delivery.
For an international arrival, allow for leaving the aircraft, immigration, baggage reclaim, customs, the walk to the correct desk and any queue. None of those steps is included in the scheduled landing time. A flight due at 10:00 gives you an uncertain window before an 11:00 luggage deadline.
Check the counter in your actual terminal. Moving to another terminal to chase a later cutoff adds another journey with your suitcase. Decide whether the time saved in town still makes that worthwhile.
Same-day delivery
Choose this only when the counter accepts your exact hotel, bag and handover time for delivery that day. Keep what you need until the stated arrival window with you.
Next day or later
Choose this when the confirmed delivery date fits your stay and you have packed separately for the intervening nights. Ask for the calendar date rather than assuming “tomorrow morning.”
The three examples below have different service areas, prices and bag limits. They are specific options to check, not a single airport-wide tariff. Counter opening hours can extend well beyond the last same-day shipment.
Yamato: morning handover for evening delivery
Check the exact hotel and bag size
Yamato’s Haneda guide lists an 11:00 drop-off deadline and hotel receipt after 18:00 that day. Central Tokyo hotels are covered, with selected surrounding areas; confirm the address. International-arrival sending counters are on 2F at both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.
- Its hotel tariff for Central Tokyo lists ¥4,850 for size 140, up to 20 kg, and ¥5,170 for size 160, up to 25 kg, including tax at cash rates.
- Size means the sum of three dimensions. If weight requires a higher band, the higher band applies. The service limit is 200 cm total and 30 kg.
- No advance reservation is required. Staff measure the luggage and determine the final price at handover.
Price check: Yamato’s general same-day page instead gives ¥5,780 for a size-160 Haneda-to-Tokyo-23-wards example. These are different published examples; this guide cannot establish that their exact hotel categories and conditions match. Ask the counter for the total for your hotel. Yamato’s airport-counter fee notice also lists a ¥660 Haneda counter fee, including tax. Ask for the all-in total and whether the displayed hotel tariff already includes it; do not add it twice.
“After 18:00” does not mean your suitcase will be waiting at a 15:00 check-in. If you need its contents earlier, carry them separately or take the bag to the hotel yourself.
Narita: Yamato’s Terminal 3 has the earlier cutoff
Use your terminal’s deadline
Yamato’s Narita FAQ requires handover by 10:30 at Terminals 1 and 2, or 09:50 at Terminal 3, for eligible same-day Tokyo delivery. Tokyo’s remote islands are excluded. You cannot choose a preferred delivery time window.
The airport delivery guide places the sending counters in the 1F arrival lobbies and estimates same-day receipt at 18:00–21:00. It displays ¥3,190 for size 140/up to 20 kg and ¥3,580 for size 160/up to 25 kg to Tokyo; its overall limit is 200 cm total/30 kg.
Ask for the all-in charge. The Narita FAQ also states a ¥660 counter fee, including tax. The displayed tariff does not clearly explain whether that fee is already included. Do not add it twice or assume it is waived.
The FAQ warns that weather or congestion can delay delivery or stop acceptance. A one-night hotel stay can be declined because of that risk.
An afternoon arrival misses these listed same-day deadlines. A desk that is still open may offer a later delivery date; it does not extend the morning cutoff.
Sagawa Terminal 2: a later cutoff with narrower coverage
Terminal 2, 1F delivery counter
The Sagawa Terminal 2 counter page lists 07:00–20:00 opening hours, a 13:00 same-day drop-off deadline and estimated delivery from 16:00.
This counter’s listed hotel area is Urayasu City plus ten Tokyo wards: Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Ota, Shibuya, Chuo, Bunkyo, Chiyoda, Taito, Minato and Koto.
- Up to 140 cm total and 20 kg: ¥2,180 per bag, tax included.
- Up to 160 cm total and 30 kg: ¥2,440 per bag, tax included.
- Larger bags are outside the published same-day price bands. Ask about acceptance rather than applying the separate storage limits.
The reservation link on this page is for storage. It is not confirmation of a hotel delivery booking.
Sagawa’s general FAQ describes wider Tokyo coverage but tells readers to check the service center. Use this counter’s narrower list. The FAQ also warns of traffic delays and excludes unstaffed accommodation. Confirm the handover and expected receipt time for your hotel.
Get the delivery date before choosing a later service
Yamato’s arrival-delivery FAQ says that missing the same-day cutoff means next-day delivery or later. Its standard service commonly takes one or two days, with destination exceptions. That is a broad service description, not a confirmed date for your suitcase.
Tell the counter when you check out and where you will stay next. If you leave the first hotel the next morning, sending there for a later arrival creates a collection problem. Sending directly to a later hotel can make sense only after that hotel agrees to receive and hold the bag and the carrier confirms the destination and date.
For your own journey, use our Haneda airport access guide or Narita airport access guide. Keep a workable route for travelling with the bag if delivery is unavailable.
Ask the hotel who will receive the suitcase
A confirmed room booking does not establish the property’s luggage-receiving policy. As a planning precaution, ask the hotel before travelling, especially for an early delivery, a late arrival or a short stay.
- Match the booking
- Use the guest name on the reservation, the full property name and address, and the check-in date. Save the hotel’s phone number and booking confirmation.
- Confirm reception
- Ask whether staff can accept a prepaid courier bag before you arrive, during the carrier’s delivery window, and where you collect it.
- Check fees and timing
- Ask about bag-count limits, any receiving or holding charge, and how long the hotel will keep it. Agree the dates if delivery is before check-in.
- Plan for a changed stay
- If the booking or hotel changes, contact the carrier promptly with the shipment number. Do not assume an address change is possible or free.
For an apartment, Airbnb-style rental or self-check-in hotel, a street address and door code are not a receiving arrangement. Yamato’s airport guide excludes destinations without someone to receive the bag and suggests a Yamato sales office instead. Confirm that the specific office accepts your shipment and check its collection hours and identification requirements before choosing it.
Sagawa’s hotel-delivery FAQ also excludes unmanned accommodation. Do not ask the driver to leave the suitcase in a corridor or treat an unattended locker as an accepted delivery destination.
When carrying the bag is the better plan
- You arrive near or after the cutoff. Build the first day around the bag unless staff accept a suitable alternative. A delayed flight can remove the option you researched.
- You need the contents before the delivery window. Evening clothes, work equipment or a change of clothes may matter more than avoiding a suitcase on the train.
- You leave the hotel before delivery is reliable. A one-night stop followed by an early departure leaves little room for delay.
- No one can receive it. Self-check-in access is not enough. Use a confirmed staffed pickup location or keep the bag.
- The total saving is small. Include the counter queue, any terminal transfer, per-bag fees and a possible pickup trip. A direct journey to the hotel may be simpler.
Delivery can be useful when an early arrival leaves a long sightseeing day before check-in and the destination is confirmed. It is less useful when it merely replaces a short hotel stop with several new tasks.
Keep a small bag for the delivery day
Keep with you
Passport and travel documents, money and valuables, phone and charger, medication you need, keys, and the clothing or toiletries needed until receipt. For next-day or later delivery, pack for the whole gap and a possible delay.
Save the shipment details
Keep the receipt and tracking number outside the shipped bag. Photograph the suitcase and label, check the destination and date, and save the carrier’s contact details.
Check the chosen service’s prohibited items, packaging rules and compensation terms before paying. Do not assume that every item accepted by an airline can be sent by that courier, or that the full value of the contents is covered.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send luggage from Haneda or Narita to my hotel on arrival day?
Possibly, if you meet the exact counter’s cutoff and it accepts your hotel and bag for same-day delivery. Use the provider-specific sections above. Scheduled landing time, counter opening hours and delivery acceptance are separate things.
Does a morning flight guarantee same-day luggage delivery?
No. You still need to collect your luggage, finish arrival formalities and reach the right desk in time. Leave room for queues and delays, and keep an alternative route to your hotel.
Will the suitcase arrive before I check in?
Do not assume so. The examples here have afternoon or evening delivery windows. Ask about the expected receipt time, and keep anything you need for check-in or your first outing with you.
Can I send it to a hotel I have not checked into yet?
Ask the hotel whether it will receive and hold courier luggage for your booking and dates. Then have the carrier confirm the address and delivery date. Include the reservation name and check-in date so staff can match the bag to you.
Can I use delivery for a self-check-in apartment?
Not without an arrangement the carrier accepts. The services discussed here exclude unstaffed accommodation. Check a specific staffed collection alternative before paying, or travel with your suitcase.
Does booking a service guarantee on-time arrival?
No general guarantee is established by these listings. Read the actual product’s conditions. A storage reservation is not a delivery reservation, and an accepted shipment can still face disruption.
How this guide was checked
Official Yamato and Sagawa pages linked above were checked on October 10, 2026. These are published conditions, not live acceptance, test bookings or counter visits. Yamato’s different published price examples and counter-fee questions are identified where relevant. Recheck your chosen counter, exact hotel, all-in price and delivery date before handing over luggage.
